Officials with OOC and the County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency (COIDA) made the announcement during a Dec. 2 event at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center. Nearly 80 people — including family, staff, and colleagues — gathered to celebrate Treadwell’s career.

To cap the evening, Kevin Caraccioli, general counsel for the COIDA and OOC; Carolyn Rush, former chair of the COIDA; Gary Toth, current chair of the COIDA; and Ellen Holst, president of the OOC board of directors, collectively announced the renaming of the Oswego County Industrial Park.

In addition, the Oswego County Legislature and New York State Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R–Pulaski) thanked Treadwell for his dedication to economic development in Oswego County by issuing proclamations in his name.

Austin Wheelock, the incoming executive director, served as emcee for the event.

The L. Michael Treadwell Oswego County Industrial Park is a “well-established” park, home to 14 companies from the industrial, business, and education sectors, OOC said. With an additional 185 acres purchased adjacent to the industrial park a little more than a year ago for expansion, the industrial park is positioned for continued growth.

Treadwell joined Operation Oswego County in 1983 and has served as executive director throughout his tenure. Over his nearly 40-year tenure, Treadwell “has touched nearly every business in the county, at one time or another,” OOC said. Treadwell also “played significant roles” in keeping Huhtamaki in Fulton and saving the Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant from closure, the organization noted.

Besides leading OOC, Treadwell served as the CEO of the COIDA, a public-benefit corporation established in 1976 by the Oswego County Legislature and a “major economic-partnering agency in the county,” per the OOC announcement.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The installation of upgraded chairback seating in the JMA Wireless Dome will happen in the months ahead, Syracuse University recently announced.

Crews will replace bench seating throughout the venue’s 100, 200 and 300 levels, “resulting in added comfort and accessibility,” Syracuse contended in its Dec. 8 announcement.

As a result, the university said, the JMA Wireless Dome will have a new seat map and revised capacities for football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, and women’s lacrosse competitions.

Phase-two renovations and construction will begin in the spring of 2023, following commencement and will be completed ahead of the 2024 football season, Syracuse University said. Syracuse Athletics will provide updated information regarding the timeline of the renovation, seating and capacity changes, new ticket offerings and pricing as these plans are finalized, per the announcement.

“There is no doubting the enormous impact the JMA Wireless Dome Transformation Project is having on Syracuse Athletics, the five teams that call this building home and the fans who enjoy visiting and cheering on the Orange,” John Wildhack, director of athletics, said in a statement. “There is a lot of exciting work ahead and still many details to confirm, but Syracuse Athletics remains focused on providing an unmatched experience to our season ticket holders, donors and fans. As we continue to work through the revised seating map, we are committed to providing timely and transparent communication to our loyal supporters to ensure they continue to enjoy the level of service they have come to expect from the JMA Dome.”

The announcement represents the latest development in Syracuse University’s multimillion-dollar, multiyear effort, which began in 2018, to “reimagine the stadium experience.” The work has included the installation of a new fixed roof, the largest center-hung video scoreboard in college sports and air conditioning, and a new naming-rights agreement with Syracuse–based JMA Wireless. It has also invested significantly in accessibility updates, lighting and sound enhancements, and in its concession stands.

Syracuse also noted the future plans include the eventual construction of Miron Victory Court, which will expand and redefine the JMA Dome’s footprint and connect it to the Barnes Center at The Arch.

Dataflow has been actively looking for viable acquisitions of businesses that are a good fit for the company by expanding services and adding value, says Steve Cheek, Dataflow’s chief commerce officer, tells CNYBJ. This latest purchase, which closed Dec. 1, is the firm’s fourth acquisition in the past four years.

While Dataflow was actively looking in that particular region, it was actually Prolifiq’s former owner Kim Robinson who reached out to the company, Cheek says. Robinson was looking to retire. “She had a qualified team of people and a good list of clients,” he adds.

While Cheek declined to disclose financial terms of the deal, he says Dataflow acquired Prolifiq’s roughly 2,500-square-foot building, two wide-format graphic Roland print and cut machines, one full-size Mimaki flatbed printer, and retained Prolifiq’s four experienced employees.

“Our expertise in the printing and signage industry combined with Prolifiq Sign Studio’s vehicle wrapping and decals, along with their own printing and sign services, will allow us to better serve businesses of all sizes in Upstate New York,” Dataflow President and CEO Dan Zimmerman said in a statement.

Dataflow got its start in 1958 as a small blueprinting shop. Today, the company is a full-service print and document-management offering services including branding materials, large-format printing, digital document workflows, and sign fabrication and installation.

With the acquisition of Prolifiq, Dataflow will bring its offerings, like large-format products and services to Prolifiq’s clients. It also offers Prolifiq’s vehicle-wrapping and decal expertise to Dataflow clients in the area.

The bottom line is that Dataflow is now able to better serve all those clients, as well as the new clients it hopes to attract, Cheek says.

The new location also improves Dataflow’s coverage between its Binghamton headquarters and Albany office, which will make sign installation more efficient and cost effective, he adds.

Along with the acquisition, Dataflow also recently launched a fully online store to better serve customers, Cheek says. “We are constantly, every week, adding new products and services to that store.” Anything from simple building signage like exits signs to customized products are available from the store.

What makes Dataflow different from an online service like VistaPrint is that customers can order online, at a self-service kiosk in store, working with an employee, or a hybrid of all those methods.

“You can do 80 percent of the work online and say, ‘I need some help here,’” Cheek says. Customers can have their purchases delivered or choose to pick up. People still want to buy local, he notes, so it’s important that Dataflow offers all the ways that customers want to buy.

Along with its Binghamton headquarters and new Edmeston location, Dataflow also operates offices in Endicott, Albany, Elmira, Ithaca, Corning/Horseheads, Utica, and Rochester. The company employs nearly 70 people across all its locations.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Two long-time employees of CR Fletcher Associates, Inc. are now in charge of the Syracuse professional-recruitment firm.

Joanne Rauch and Michelle Jevis are now company presidents after principals after Carol Fletcher and Tom Fletcher on Dec. 7 announced the company had signed an agreement to transfer ownership to the duo.

The Fletchers are retiring and will provide consultation on an as-needed basis, Rauch tells CNYBJ in an email.

“We are excited for this next chapter and know what we started over 30 years ago will continue to provide outstanding employee recruitment services as Joanne and Michelle take over leadership,” Carol Fletcher said in the announcement.

Tom Fletcher called Rauch and Jevis “the right fit” to lead the company that the Fletchers launched more than three decades ago.

The company didn’t release any financial details of its ownership-transfer agreement. The firm is located at 126 N. Salina St. in Syracuse.

Rauch joined CR Fletcher back in 1994 has been an “integral” part of the company’s growth since that time.

“We have a talented team here at CR Fletcher and I am honored that Carol and Tom are entrusting Michelle and I to continue their legacy and strengthen our relationships throughout the business community” Rauch said in the firm’s announcement.

Prior to the transition, Rauch was an executive recruiter for CR Fletcher.

Including Rauch and Jevis, the firm has nine company employees and about 150 temporary employees working at client locations, Rauch tells CNYBJ.

Jevis joined the firm in 2002 and has been “instrumental” in developing CR Fletcher as a leading temporary and industrial placement service, bringing top level candidates. Jevis handles the temporary staffing and human resources (HR) initiatives at CR Fletcher and manages HR and staffing at CR Fletcher.

“This is an exciting time to lead a company that has a strong reputation in Central New York and a dedicated team to continue our commitment to service the business community with exceptional talent, along with my long-time trusted colleague, Joanne,” Jevis said.

CR Fletcher says it recruits professional talent in the fields of accounting and finance, sales and marketing, information technology, administrative, human resources, customer service, and industrial and manufacturing.

OSWEGO, N.Y. — The former president of SUNY Oswego now holds the title of president emeritus of the school.

The SUNY board adopted a resolution acknowledging Stanley as president emeritus of SUNY Oswego during its Dec. 13 meeting in Albany.

Stanley, who retired as president of SUNY Oswego nearly a year ago, has been serving as interim chancellor of the SUNY system.

After serving as interim president of SUNY Oswego from 1995-1997, Stanley was appointed the 10th president of SUNY Oswego in 1997. Prior to becoming president, she taught and earned tenure in the school of business and served as VP for academic affairs and provost, meaning her service to the institution spanned more than 44 years.

Stanley retired in December 2021, before serving as interim SUNY chancellor over the past year.

“President Stanley’s legacy is ingrained in the tapestry of SUNY Oswego. It is evident on campus, in the region, state, and at the national level. It is also reflected in her strategic and thoughtful leadership as well as in her profound commitment to the power of education to transform lives,” Mary Toale, officer in charge of SUNY Oswego, said. “She led the university with passion and purpose, and her insight and vision laid a foundation for SUNY Oswego and future generations of Lakers to thrive well into the future. Recognition of President Stanley’s steadfast commitment to higher education as President Emeritus is a befitting honor.”

James McMahon, who chairs the SUNY Oswego College Council, called Stanley an “extraordinary and truly transformational leader” for SUNY Oswego and its extended community.

“Her leadership has influenced and uplifted many sectors beyond education including economic, political and social,” McMahon said. “Receiving the distinction of President Emeritus from the State University of New York Board of Trustees is a deserving capstone to her exceptional career and visionary, dynamic and highly impactful service to public higher education.”

Binghamton University awarded $60M to construct lecture hall, classroom building

“This new building will serve as a hub for students to take classes and study in the Information Commons,” Harvey Stenger, president of Binghamton University, said. “It will help meet current and future demand for our largest classes, and provide space for more classes at convenient times for faculty and students.”

To be built across from Academic A and adjacent to lot M, the building will include one 300-seat lecture hall; one-180 seat lecture hall; one 100-seat active-learning classroom; two learning studios; 23 general-purpose classrooms in sizes varying from 20 to 75 seats; three computer classrooms; and an “Information Commons,” Binghamton University said.

“There is high demand for additional large lecture hall spaces on campus,” Donald Hall, the school’s executive VP for academic affairs and provost, said. “Our current rooms are utilized continuously throughout the day, often requiring classes to be split into multiple sections. And when these rooms are not being used for classes, they tend to be heavily scheduled for events by academic departments and student groups.”

With student enrollment up more than 20 percent over the past decade, and the constant need to upgrade technology in learning spaces, the new lecture hall and classroom building will help meet demand, Binghamton University contends.

Since the 2017-18 fiscal year, Binghamton says it has benefited from more than $220 million for capital improvements for projects. They’ve included the Pharmacy R&D Building in Johnson City; Science 2 Tower; Science 4 Phase II; Baseball Clubhouse, Phase I; the Charlene and Roger Kramer Welcome Center; Bartle Library third-floor renovation; and the recently approved Science 3, phase I renovation.

Additionally, crews have completed several infrastructure and capital-renewal projects on campus totaling more than
$15 million, Binghamton University said.
