WATERTOWN, N.Y. — The Bon-Ton store at Salmon Run Mall in Watertown is closing.
Bon-Ton Stores Inc. named 42 stores across the country it is shuttering as the retailer follows its “store rationalization program.”
“As part of the comprehensive turnaround plan we announced in November, we are taking the next steps in our efforts to move forward with a more productive store footprint,” Bill Tracy, president and CEO for Bon-Ton Stores, said in a news release.

The company has brought in a third-party liquidator, Hilco Merchant Resources, to help manage store-closing sales. The closing sales began Thursday and will run for 10 to 12 weeks, the release said.
“Associates at these locations will be offered the opportunity to interview for available positions at other store locations,” it added.
The Bon-Ton stores in Camillus, Ithaca, Horseheads, and Johnson City are not on the store closure list.
York, Pennsylvania–based Bon-Ton says it has 260 stores.
