SYRACUSE — Margaret M. “Meg” O’Connell will take over as interim president of Onondaga Community College (OCC) on July 1.
Current President Debbie Sydow will leave the school July 1 to become president of Richard Bland College in Petersburg, Va., OCC announced last week. Sydow is a native of Virginia and joined OCC in 2000 after working in the Virginia Community College system.
OCC plans to conduct a national search for Sydow’s successor. O’Connell, currently chairwoman of OCC’s Board of Trustees, is not a candidate.

“Meg is a steady, thoughtful leader who will keep the institution focused on its core mission and priorities during this period of transition,” Sydow said in a news release.
OCC has nearly 13,000 students and nearly 50 programs of study.
