SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The AmeriCU Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival got underway Friday morning at Columbus Circle in downtown Syracuse. Two hours into the event, hundreds of people were already perusing the various arts and crafts exhibits on display.
Organizers say nearly 50,000 visitors are expected to visit Columbus Circle and surrounding streets for the weekend-long, 48th edition of the event, which features 170 artists, craftspeople, and entertainers from 20 states. Artists have come to downtown Syracuse from as far away as Florida, Arizona, California, as well as Ontario, Canada, the Downtown Committee of Syracuse says.
Visitors can check out ceramics, computer art, painting, fabric and fiver, sculpture, photography, jewelry, glass, and more. The free event also features a variety of street performers, kids’ activities, and traditional festival foods and sweet treats.

Funding for the Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival is provided by AmeriCU Credit Union and a New York State grant secured by State Senator John A. DeFrancisco, according to the Downtown Committee.
The Syracuse Arts & Crafts Festival started at 10:00 a.m. Friday and runs until 6:00 p.m., then operates both Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. It encompasses the 200 and 300 blocks of East Onondaga Street, the 300 and 400 blocks of Montgomery Street, and the 200 and 300 blocks of East Jefferson Street.
