CLAY, N.Y. — In a filing with New York State, Sears says the closure of its store in Great Northern Mall on Route 31 in Clay will eliminate 57 jobs.
Fifty-two of those jobs are in the store, No. 01623, and another five will be lost when the Sears Auto Center at the east end of the store shuts down.
Both facilities are slated to close at the end of September, with layoffs scheduled for the same time, according to the company’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice with the state Department of Labor.

The closure of the Clay store will leave the chain, which has closed more than 1,000 stores in recent years, with no stores in Onondaga County. Sears stores remain open in Watertown and Horseheads, for now.
