The Syracuse area added 1,400 jobs in the last year, while the Ithaca region gained 2,600 jobs in the same period.
The Utica–Rome, Binghamton, and Watertown–Fort Drum regions also picked up positions between September 2016 and this past September, while the Elmira region shed jobs over the past year.
That’s according to the latest monthly employment report that the New York State Department of Labor issued on Thursday.

The job gains for the Syracuse region in that 12-month period represent an increase of 0.4 percent.
The Utica–Rome metro area added 800 jobs in the past year, a rise of 0.6 percent.
The Watertown–Fort Drum region gained 600 jobs in the same period, an increase of 1.4 percent.
The jobs gains for the Ithaca area between September 2016 and this past September represent an increase of 4.1 percent.
The Binghamton region gained 400 jobs, a rise of 0.4 percent, in the past 12 months.
The Elmira area lost 600 jobs in the past 12 months, a decrease of 1.6 percent.
New York state as a whole gained more than 89,000 jobs, an increase of 0.9 percent, in that 12-month period. However, the state economy lost more than 34,000 jobs, a 0.4 percent drop, between August and September of this year, the labor department said.
