SYRACUSE — A total of 546 trade-union craftsmen worked on constructing the Destiny USA shopping mall expansion in Syracuse, according to a new report.
Those jobs produced $27 million in income and benefits for local union workers, the report said. The Central and Northern New York Building Trades Council released the report today.
“We’re releasing this information now because it’s important to let everyone know that in upstate New York we’re open for business again with good-paying union jobs and increasing opportunities for trade-craft workers,” council President Greg Lancette said in a news release. “We want everyone from seasoned journeymen to new apprentices, from contractors to suppliers, and, of course, retailers and shoppers to know you can stay here, you can work here, and you can come here to spend your money. We need more cooperation throughout the community to encourage more large-scale development like this project.”
