GENEVA, N.Y. — The Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing (MSWSPN) celebrated its 87th graduating class on June 23 in the auditorium at Geneva High School.
The ceremony was also lived streamed on fingerlakes1.com so that family members, friends, and others could share the day with the graduates.
The class of nine students is now eligible to take their licensed practical nurse (or LPN) exam. The graduates are: Priti Bhatia (Lodi), Meghan Cole (Waterloo), Katherine Johnson (Fairport), Stephanie Johnson (Canandaigua), Aneesah Lattimore (Geneva), Shania Meyer (Sodus), Tina Prasai (Syracuse), Keith Rizzo (Shortsville), and Marisa Smith (Penn Yan).
Ardelle Bigos, Finger Lakes Health’s chief nursing officer, welcomed students and families to the commencement and Dr. Jose Acevedo, president and CEO of Finger Lakes Health, presented diplomas to the graduating students. Shania Meyer delivered the class address.
The Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing, part of Finger Lakes Health, is one of only three hospital-based nursing programs in New York state and was founded in 1956. Since that time, it has graduated more than 1,800 nurses.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Catholic Charities of Broome County recently appointed Mary Roper, media buyer for Riger Marketing Communications, to its volunteer board of directors.
Roper brings decades of experience in regional media planning and buying, as well as a background in local broadcasting, to her new role on the board.
Catholic Charities provides services to more than 60,000 community members annually and serves more than 90,000 meals to the hungry. The nonprofit says it cares for those in need while promoting human development, collaboration, and the elimination of poverty and injustice, and counsels and advocates for youth, families, and people with developmental and mental-health needs without regard to the recipient’s religion.

Glenn Weisiger, of CBRE Syracuse, represented the tenant, Leslie’s Pool Supplies, in this transaction, according to a news release from the real-estate firm.
Leslie’s Pool Supplies says it is the largest swimming-pool supplies retailer in the U.S. Leslie’s sells a full range of supplies for pool maintenance, including chemicals, cleaning devices, equipment, and parts, as well as recreational and safety products for swimming pools. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, the company has more than 930 locations across the U.S. Locally, Leslie’s operates a store at 3910 Brewerton Road in Clay, in addition to the Camillus store, according to its website.
