The number of people filing applications for unemployment benefits in New York state rose to 13,803 in the week ending June 25 from 13,600 the week before.
That’s according to a news release issued Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor, citing advanced data provided by the state. The data is not seasonally adjusted and is subject to revision.
The slight rise in initial jobless claims in the Empire State comes after claims in the state plunged by 15 percent in the week ending June 18 to 13,600 from 16,046 a week prior. Fewer layoffs in New York’s manufacturing, accommodation and food service, and construction industries led the decline in jobless-benefit filings that week, according to the release.

The four-week moving average for U.S. jobless claims was unchanged from the previous week.
