ALBANY, N.Y. — New York realtors sold more than 11,300 previously owned homes in September, down almost 10 percent from the 12.500 homes they sold in September 2016.
That’s according to the latest New York State Association of Realtors’ (NYSAR) housing-market report.
Realtors sold 38,445 homes across New York state in this year’s third quarter, a 3.1-percent decline from the 2016 third quarter’s “record” total of nearly 40,000 homes. The 2017 third-quarter sales total is the “second best on record for the period,” according to NYSAR.

The statewide median sale price rose 6 percent to $257,500 in September from $243,000 a year ago.
The third quarter statewide median sale price was $261,500, up 5 percent from $249,000 a year prior, according to NYSAR.
The months’ supply of homes for sale fell 8.6 percent at the end of September to 6.4 months supply. It stood at 7 months at the end of September 2016. NYSAR considers a 6 month to 6.5 month supply a balanced market.
Central New York data
September home sales also declined in Central New York’s five largest counties.
Realtors in Broome County sold 123 existing homes in September, down more than 17 percent from 149 a year ago, according to the NYSAR report. The median sale price increased 0.5 percent to $111,000 from $110,450 a year ago.
In Jefferson County, realtors closed on 116 homes in September, down 2.5 percent from 119 a year ago, and the median sale price decreased nearly 11 percent to almost $147,000 from $165,000 in September 2016, according to the NYSAR data.
NYSAR also reports that realtors sold 198 homes in Oneida County last month, down about 4 percent compared to the 206 homes sold in September 2016. The median sale price increased 3 percent to $131,500 from $127,720 a year ago.
Realtors in Onondaga County sold 458 previously owned homes in September, down more than 12 percent from 522 homes a year ago. The median sale price rose 6.4 percent to nearly $149,000 from $140,000 a year prior, according to the NYSAR report.
In Oswego County, homes sales fell almost 10 percent to 103 in September from 114 a year earlier. The median sale price declined nearly 19 percent to $97,000 from $119,600.
All home-sales data is compiled from multiple-listing services in New York state and it includes townhomes and condominiums in addition to existing single-family homes, according to NYSAR.
