Four Central New York colleges are among private institutions statewide that will use funding from a matching-grants program for projects on their campuses.
The schools include Cazenovia College, Hartwick College in Oneonta, Utica College, and Wells College in Aurora, according to a news release the office of Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued on Monday.
The regional schools will share in more than $35 million from the Higher Education Capital Matching Grants Program (HECap).

The program provides matching grants to private colleges and universities for the construction, rehabilitation, or repair of classrooms, laboratories, and other facilities.
The program requires grantees to match about three dollars for every dollar that New York state provides.
Utica College will use $2.5 million for construction of a new multi-sport, recreational air dome, along with improvements to its Clark Athletic Center.
New York State Senator Joseph Griffo (R–Rome) and New York State Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi (D–Utica) announced Utica College’s funding in a news release last Thursday.
In addition, Cazenovia College will use $750,000 for renovations to Building A, along with the construction of an addition between Building A and B at the Jephson Campus, Cuomo’s office said.
At the same time Hartwick College will use $500,000 for renovation work at its Anderson Center for the Arts.
The funding awards also include more than $145,000 for Wells College, which will use the money to help pay for renovation work in its gymnasium.
“New York’s colleges and universities are among the best in the nation … and with this funding, we are helping them make big investments that will benefit students in both the near and long-term future,” Cuomo said in the news release. “I’m proud to be supporting these important projects, because they will ensure a stronger and more competitive higher education environment in New York for years to come.”
