CAZENOVIA, N.Y. — A group of local investors that calls itself 9 Fresh says it has purchased the former Cazenovia College campus, which shuttered on June 30, 2023 following financial difficulties.

CNYBJ initially reported on the group’s interest in buying the campus in November 2024.

“We’re thrilled to share that our team has reached an agreement in principle to purchase the Cazenovia College campus. After many (many) months of due diligence, planning, and collaboration, this marks a major milestone in our effort to bring fresh energy and long-term value to a place that means so much to us and this community,” Kate Brodock, founder & general partner of 9 Fresh, said in an announcement on the group’s website.

No purchase price or other financial details were disclosed in the announcement.

Brodock went on to say that the group, who she described as “local to Cazenovia and deeply invested in its future” has been “working diligently for months” to shape a redevelopment approach that honors the legacy of the College “while opening the door to new opportunities for our wonderful town.”

Brodock’s message also thanked municipal leaders and community members who have offered their support, insight, and encouragement. “Your involvement has helped immensely and we’re just getting started,” Brodock added.

She ended her announcement by saying, “Stay tuned – we’ll be sharing more in the coming weeks.”

Besides leading 9 Fresh, Brodock is also general partner at The W Fund, a venture-capital firm that invests into early-stage tech startups, per her personal website. She also serves as CEO of SWITCH, a firm that focuses on women-led startups and angel investors, per the site.

Besides Brodock, 9 Fresh also includes Anne Halsey Flowers, who is also a group partner; along with Adam O’Neill, Travis Barr, Linda Morgan, and Matt Cashatt, who are all described as a “community lead” on the 9 Fresh website.

The group also used its website to outline its project plan, saying, “We have the opportunity to turn a once-vibrant academic institution into an equally as vibrant, reimagined district for innovation, business growth, and impact that not only strongly serves our community, but provides powerful global connections and influence.”

The 9Fresh website also lists its partners as the Oughtness Group, which is based out of Atlanta, Georgia and has an “extensive background” in multi-national development practices specifically combined with a community-development model focused on improving health, economic, and education outcomes for residents.

Another partner, Colicchio Consulting of New York City, works on “creating top food and beverage experiences, with a viewpoint centered around culture,” per the website.
