SYRACUSE — The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded Vera House, Inc. a grant of $350,000 to support its work to combat domestic, dating, and sexual violence.
U.S. Representative Daniel Maffei (D–DeWitt) today announced the grant award.
The DOJ’s Office on Violence Against Women is providing the funding, the lawmaker said in a news release.

The grant is a component of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), which Maffei said he co-sponsored and voted for in February.
Vera House is a domestic and sexual-violence service agency providing shelter, advocacy, and counseling services for women, children, and men, along with education and prevention programs and community coordination, according to its website.
The federal grant will “expand our work to engage men and boys in efforts to end domestic and sexual violence,” Vera House Executive Director Randi Bregman said in the news release.
“This funding would not have been possible without the renewal of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) earlier this year,” Bregman said.
