VESTAL, N.Y. — The Ithaca law firm of Schlather, Stumbar, Parks & Salk, LLP (SSPS) has combined with the Vestal–based law firm of Levene Gouldin & Thompson, LLP (LGT).
The combination became official on Jan. 1, and the firm will continue to operate under the name Levene Gouldin & Thompson.
The expansion will “substantially increase” LGT’s presence throughout Central New York, including the Southern Tier, by adding experienced attorneys and staff from SSPS who will provide legal services from what is now LGT’s Ithaca office located at 200 E. Buffalo St.

A special ribbon-cutting event is set for Jan. 6 at the Ithaca office at 3 p.m., per the website of the Tompkins Chamber.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome our new colleagues to LGT,” Kevin Williams, attorney and chairman of the executive committee at Levene Gouldin & Thompson, said in the announcement. “This strategic expansion not only strengthens our legal team but also broadens the scope of services we can offer our clients in Tompkins County and beyond.”
The attorneys joining LGT from SSPS primarily focus on personal-injury litigation and also bring significant experience in civil rights law, commercial litigation and transactions, trusts and estates, criminal defense, and employment law.
The new additions include Jacob McNamara and Aubrey Hetznecker, who will both become LGT partners, and Raymond Schlather, who will join as of counsel.
Staff members from SSPS will also be joining the LGT team, including paralegals Mary Beth Chamberlain and MaryJo Cobb, and Miranda Fisher, who will serve as the office manager for the Ithaca office, LGT said.
In addition, attorney Emily Turner will be working part-time with LGT, Schlather tells CNYBJ in an email. Schlather also says SSPS partner Diane Bruns is retiring; attorney James Salk will continue in his role as Ithaca Town Justice without any affiliation to LGT; and attorney Nina Aasen will continue as of counsel with some long-time friends at the law firm of Sterne & Walsh, PLLC in Rochester.
In addition to the merger, Levene Gouldin & Thompson is also promoting two attorneys from its Vestal office to partner, effective Jan. 1. The new partners from the Vestal office are Chelsea Aiosa and David Williams.
Founded in 1927, Levene Gouldin & Thompson is a regional law firm with offices serving clients across a wide range of practice areas, committed to providing high-quality legal representation to individuals and businesses.
