HERKIMER, N.Y. — The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties has awarded Herkimer County HealthNet, Inc. (HCHN) a $15,000 grant to advance the Age-Friendly Herkimer County initiative.
HCHN will use the funding to help implement priority projects from the county’s age-friendly action plan. That includes the new Herkimer Home Safety Guide, intergenerational events, digital literacy supports, volunteer engagement, transportation awareness, and expanded outreach for aging and caregiver resources.
“We are grateful for The Community Foundation’s long-standing partnership and dedication to strengthening our community,” Elyse Enea, executive director of Herkimer County HealthNet, said in the announcement. “This support accelerates the work our residents told us matters most — creating welcoming, age-friendly environments where older adults feel supported, connected, and able to thrive.”

Age-Friendly Herkimer County promotes access to services, supports, and opportunities for people as they age, and encourages the inclusion and participation of older adults in all aspects of life, HCHN said. This work builds on Herkimer County’s recent AARP Age-Friendly Community designation, recognizing local commitment to “livable, inclusive” communities for all ages.
