HERKIMER, N.Y. — First Source Federal Credit Union (FCU) announced it has started the groundwork for a new branch office in Herkimer, scheduled for completion in mid-2026.
The new, more modern office will be located next door to 510 West State St., where the credit union has operated a branch for 33 years.
“Originally, when this branch was built in 1992 it was to be a temporary solution with a larger and more functional branch to follow soon after,” Heather Padula, First Source FCU VP of deposit operations, said in the announcement. “But the branch sustained and remained a steadfast part of our network and organization serving Herkimer for 33 years as one of our busiest locations. As we look at upgrading our current facilities and expanding with new ones, it was Herkimer’s time.”

The new branch will have a more modern feel with self-serve, assisted, and full-service delivery channels offering members flexibility, convenience, and personalized service, First Source FCU contends. The free-standing interactive ATMs (ITMs) located behind the branch will remain where they are now.
“This significant investment honors our commitment to our organizational mission; to improve the quality of life of our Employees, our Members, and the Communities that we serve,” John Calabrese, First Source FCU president/CEO said.
The announcement didn’t disclose the size of the investment or costs associated with building the new branch.
First Source FCU employees, board members, Town of Herkimer officials, and representatives from NewGround International and Smajic Construction were on site to commemorate the groundbreaking.
First Source FCU is a full-service financial institution, with savings, loan, and insurance products and services, serving members and the community since 1938.
