MAINE, N.Y. — On the tails of a new airline addition at the Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM), Delta Airlines announced on Friday that it will begin offering twice-daily flights to the Big Apple in the new year.
In addition to the flights to LaGuardia (LGA), Delta will also use a larger aircraft to accommodate more passengers per flight and drop its current daily flights to Detroit.
“New York City is the gateway to the world,” Broome County Executive Jason Garnar, said in a press release announcing the news. “Passengers flying out of BGM will have more destination options than ever before and with larger planes, we’ll be able to have more travelers flying in and out of Broome County. With this expansion in service, along with our new direct flights to Florida, it’s the perfect time to ‘Fly BGM!’”

Avelo Airlines announced in late August it will offer daily non-stop flights from Binghamton to Fort Myers and Orlando, Florida, beginning in mid-November.
Delta, which had offered nonstop flights from Binghamton to Detroit, plans to use CRJ-900 aircraft on the flights to New York City, seating 76 passengers in at least two classes. The Detroit flights use a CRJ-200, which seat only 50 in one class. The Detroit flights will be discontinued to allow for the new service to New York City.
Sunday through Friday, one-hour flights departing for LGA leave at 5:25 a.m. and 2 p.m. Returning flights leave LGA at 12:10 and 9:55 p.m. On Saturdays, Delta offers just one flight departing BGM at 9 a.m. with a return flight departing LGA at 7 p.m. Those times are subject to change.
“This is a great opportunity for travelers that choose BGM,” Broome County Commissioner of Aviation Mark Heefner said. “The early morning and midday flight times will allow for better access to more connections compared to our currently flight time to Detroit. Additionally, our business and leisure travelers should be pleased with the larger plane that will provide at least two classes of service, creating more comfortable flights with additional amenities.”
Travelers can book tickets beginning Oct. 29, and the first flights take off on Jan. 9, 2023.
Broome County owns the airport, located about eight miles north of Binghamton in the town of Maine, and operates it through its Department of Aviation.
