SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Crouse Health says it has certification as a “comprehensive stroke center,” reflecting the “highest level of regional experience for the treatment of serious stroke events.”
Milford, Ohio–based DNV GL – Healthcare, a hospital-accreditation organization, approved the certification.
It is based on quality standards established by the federal Brain Attack Coalition and the Dallas, Texas–based American Stroke Association, Crouse Health said in a news release.

The Bethesda, Maryland–based Brain Attack Coalition is a group of professional, voluntary, and governmental organizations “dedicated to setting direction, advancing knowledge, and communicating the best practices to prevent and treat stroke,” according to its website.
The certification “affirms” that the recipient hospital addresses the “full spectrum” of stroke care, including diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and education while establishing clear metrics to evaluate outcomes.
With the designation, Crouse says it becomes one of just 10 hospitals in New York to have earned the “comprehensive stroke center” certification.
Crouse has been a New York State-designated “primary stroke center” since 2007. Comprehensive stroke centers are “typically the largest, best-equipped hospitals in a given geographical area that can treat any kind of stroke or stroke complication,” Crouse Health said. Crouse adds that it is the “only hospital in the region” equipped with two hybrid operating room suites, allowing the stroke team to provide the “most advanced endovascular stroke rescue capabilities.”
