CLINTON, N.Y. — An $8.8 million road-rehabilitation project in Clinton to enhance safety and improve travel along State Route 12B and State Route 412 has begun, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office announced.
The project will restore road surfaces, add new sidewalks, and complete other work that will improve connectivity and accessibility for motorists and pedestrians.
Pavement rehabilitation along State Route 12B will begin at the southernmost intersection with Furnace Street in the town of Kirkland and continue north through Clinton. Rehabilitation work along State Route 412 , also known as College Street, will take place from the State Route 12B intersection to the State Route 233 intersection. New sidewalks, curb ramps, signage, and a traffic signal will be added to enhance safety and mobility for pedestrians and motorists. The goal of the new sidewalks along State Route 12B, south of the village, is to help connect the business district in Clinton to shopping destinations in Kirkland, per the announcement.

Utility and pre-construction work has begun with major construction slated to begin this spring and be completed by the summer of 2026. The intersection at 12B and College Street will close for about four weeks this summer, with an estimated closing date of July 7.
Funding for the project comes from federal and state dollars as well as from Clinton as a cost- and time-saving measure to include additional sidewalk replacements, sewer work, and hydrant replacements in the project area.
“The improvements will be transformational not only in the roads, but also for the sidewalks, pedestrian crosswalks, new sewer, hydrants, and more,” Clinton Mayor Elizabeth Tantillo said. “The Village of Clinton is glad to participate in this major renovation project with the DOT construction team.”
