UTICA, N.Y. — The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Mid-Utica Neighborhood Preservation Corporation (MUNPC), and the City of Utica will celebrate the opening of the Cornhill Empowerment Center on June 18 from 1:30-4 p.m.
The event, at 230 James St. in Utica, will feature a ribbon-cutting celebration, opportunities to explore the space, and a guided walk through the neighborhood to see key locations that are part of the broader Cornhill Revitalization Project.
Formerly known as the Empowerment Center and previously managed by the HomeOnwershipCenter, the facility is now under the leadership of the Community Foundation. Soon it will feature programming led by local nonprofit organizations.

“We are thrilled to welcome the community into this space and begin this exciting new chapter,” Community Foundation Director of Strategic Initiatives Tyler Hutchinson said in an announcement for the event. “The Cornhill Empowerment Center represents a collective commitment to unlocking opportunity, preserving the neighborhood’s history, and building a bright future for everyone who calls Cornhill home.”
The center will serve as a model for future projects planned in the neighborhood. The Community Foundation, MUNPC, People First, The Collective Impact Network, and the city are steering an investment of more than $77 million toward the Cornhill Revitalization Project, including the anticipated West Street and James Street impact centers that will serve as anchors for community transformation.
