CANTON, N.Y. — The project to remodel the lobby of the Canton branch of North Country Savings Bank is now complete.

Brian Coakley, president and CEO of North Country Savings Bank, welcomed about 50 community members to a Nov. 13 event that formally opened the newly remodeled lobby. The project is part of the bank’s “ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen its connection” with the North Country community, per the announcement from the St. Lawrence Chamber of Commerce (STLC).

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Coakley reflected on the project’s four-month duration and the bank’s “commitment to innovative, community-driven banking.”

“Banking is so traditional and has been so traditional in what we do to serve customers that we want to start to take a different approach. And this is the first step,” Coakley told those gathered, per the STLC.

Firms involved in the project included Heritage Homes, Inc. of Massena and Michael Reynolds of Beardsley Architecture in Malone.

In his remarks, Coakley emphasized that unlike traditional banks, North Country Savings Bank is a mutual bank, owned by its depositors rather than stockholders.

“This project is part of a bigger process, a bigger change,” Coakley said in the STLC announcement, noting the bank’s eight branches across the North Country. “When we stay local, we all lift each other up.”
