Broome County’s Garnar elected president of state county executive association

Jason Garnar

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Broome County Executive Jason Garnar was recently elected president of the New York State County Executives’ Association (NYSCEA), an affiliate of the New York State Association of Counties that represents the 19 counties that have county executives as their chief elected official.

As president of the NYSCEA, Garnar will lead efforts to advocate for county interests at the state level and collaborate on solutions to common challenges. The association serves as a collective voice for county executives across the state to foster shared goals and stronger partnerships.

“It is an honor to serve as president of the NYSCEA,” Garnar said in a Broome County announcement. “Counties are on the frontlines of delivering services and responding to the needs of our residents. This role is an incredible opportunity to work across the political aisle with my colleagues across the state to tackle critical issues and ensure our communities thrive.”

Garnar is currently serving his third term as Broome County executive. He was first elected in 2016 after serving as a Broome County legislator from 2007-2015. Garnar, a Democrat, then won reelection as county executive in 2020 and again in 2024, making him the first Broome County executive to be elected to three terms.
