Local unemployment rates fell in August, but are still as much as a percent higher than they were a year ago, according to figures released by the state Department of Labor.
Binghamton’s unemployment rate was 8.9 percent in August. That’s down from 9.1 percent in July, but up a full percent from 7.9 percent in August 2011.
In Syracuse, the unemployment rate fell from 8.9 percent in July to 8.6 percent in August, but that’s up from 7.8 percent a year earlier.
