HERKIMER, N.Y. — NYSARC Trust Services has awarded Arc Herkimer a $14,250 grant to “support and enhance” operating expenses of its guardianship program during 2025.

The grant supported guardianship services for individuals with disabilities who might otherwise not have a legal guardian or advocate. Funding from this grant has helped facilitate essential day-to-day operations, social engagements, and celebratory events throughout the year, “enhancing both quality of life and community connection for those served.”

“Guardianship is about empowerment and advocacy for the people we support; ensuring that their well-being is the first priority, the same as a family member or loved one would,” Tammy Helmer-Bergen, guardianship coordinator at Arc Herkimer, said in the announcement.

Through the guardianship program, Arc Herkimer says it ensures that individuals receive person-centered support and decision-making assistance “tailored to their unique needs.” Supported by staff and a guardianship committee, the program provides varying levels of care and advocacy.

NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts (SNTs) and pooled trusts that provide financial resources to enhance programming and improve quality of life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Arc Herkimer said.
