VIRGIL, N.Y. — Greek Peak Mountain Resort says it started making snow on Monday evening, Nov. 10, ahead of the upcoming 2025-2026 ski season.
The effort continued into the following day with coverage on the Karyatis Way, Meadow, Platonic, Lower Platonic, Elysian Fields, Stoic, and Odyssey trails, as well as the tubing hill.
Greek Peak has yet to announce an official opening day for the new ski season but noted that snow-making efforts started about 10 days sooner than last year.
Greek Peak Mountain Resort is located at 2000 NYS Route 392 in the town of Virgil, just south of Cortland.
In the 2024-2025 season, ski and ride guests had the opportunity to enjoy 108 days on the slopes, and with Greek Peak’s latest investments in infrastructure and snowmaking equipment, the venue is “feeling good” about a similar showing for this season.
Wes Kryger, president of Greek Peak Mountain Resort, expressed optimism for the coming season and is excited to share the resort’s “ongoing commitment to enhancing the guest experience.”
“The 2025-26 season marks the beginning of a new four-year, $2 million-plus investment plan into the mountain, and I believe our guests will be able to really see the results of our efforts to date out on the slopes this season,” Kryger said.
The completed projects that skiers and boarders will enjoy this coming season include a second wave of new rental gear added to Greek Peak’s inventory valued at $150,000.
The projects also include a new pump in the main pumphouse, which brings an increased capacity of 33 percent to get more water to key parts of the new snow-making infrastructure and increase overall terrain coverage. They also include 12 new high-efficiency HKD snow guns, along with new water and air lines on the Middle Pollux trail.
In addition, Greek Peak also added brand new snowmaking capacity to the East Meadow and Zephyr trails, and the top of Epicurus trail.
