HERKIMER, N.Y. — Herkimer County Community College on Thursday said it’s launching an associate degree program in artificial intelligence (AI) – business.

It’s designed to “prepare students for success in one of today’s fastest-growing and most in-demand fields,” per the school’s announcement.

The program seeks to provide students with a foundation in AI concepts, machine learning, big data, and the ethical considerations that shape the digital economy, Herkimer College said. With a focus on the practical applications of AI in business environments, students will learn how to bridge the gap between technology and business strategy, skills that are vital in the global marketplace.

“As artificial intelligence continues to transform every industry, employers are seeking professionals who understand how to apply AI to achieve real business results,” Michael Oriolo, provost at Herkimer College, said in the announcement. “This program empowers students with the analytical and strategic skills needed to lead in this evolving field.”

Program graduates will be equipped to identify and analyze information across various business functions to provide strategic insights, the school said. They will learn to apply critical thinking and data-driven analysis to evaluate the impact of artificial intelligence on business performance.

Career opportunities include jobs such as AI analyst, data-science analyst, machine-learning data scientist, AI trainer, and labeling specialist — roles that continue to expand as organizations adopt AI technologies, Herkimer College said. The college is now accepting applications for the program for the fall 2026.
