SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Police Department is warning Syracuse businesses about a scam involving fake zoning invoices.
The fake bills have been sent to multiple businesses across the city over the past couple of months. The notices instruct businesses to pay for an approval fee, submission fee, environmental-impact fee, and final review fee via wire transfer.
“A key way to distinguish that these invoices are fraudulent: The City of Syracuse will NEVER ask a business to wire transfer money for a zoning invoice,” the Syracuse Police Department said.
