HERKIMER, N.Y. — Herkimer County HealthNet (HCHN) says it will use a $42,500 grant from the Health Foundation for Western & Central New York to advance the goals of the Age-Friendly Herkimer County Action Plan.
This funding builds on the Health Foundation’s initial support of the Age-Friendly Herkimer County initiative, HCHN said in its announcement. The initial support paid for far-reaching community engagement, data collection, as well as development of a countywide action plan focused on improving housing, transportation, digital access, social participation, health services, and civic engagement for older adults.
The money will expand resources for older adults and caregivers; increase access to community supports; and strengthen opportunities for intergenerational connection, “fostering a healthier, more inclusive community for all ages,” HCHN contends.

“This investment is a turning point for Herkimer County’s older residents,” Elyse Enea, executive director of Herkimer County HealthNet, said. “With the Health Foundation’s continued partnership, we can put our Age-Friendly Action Plan into motion creating safer homes, stronger connections, and healthier futures for every generation in our county.”
