ROME, N.Y. — Following the July 7 opening of its new Kaplan Center for Surgical Services, Rome Health has expanded its surgical robotics program to meet growing demand and enhance patient outcomes, the health system announced.
The expansion includes the addition of a second da Vinci Xi Surgical System now in use at the new facility, which offers an array of robotic-assisted procedures including bariatric, colorectal, general surgery, gynecologic, thoracic, and urological.
“This significant investment ensures that our surgeons have access to the advanced technology they need to deliver the best possible outcomes for their patients,” Robotics Coordinator Maureen Fischer said in the July 17 announcement. “Bringing a second robot online allows us to offer more patients the benefits of minimally invasive, robot-assisted surgery right here in our community.”

Rome Health launched its surgical robotics program in June 2024. The technology offers smaller incisions, faster recovery time, minimal pain and scarring, and shorter hospital stays, Fischer said.
Rome Health also recently received American Heart Association Get with the Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline achievement awards for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke.
The organization received the 2025 Rural Stroke Gold and 2025 Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll.
The programs help hospitals ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence- and research-based guidelines.
