Connecticut–based Smith Brothers Insurance, LLC, which operates offices in Owego, Vestal, Waverly, and Albany, has acquired Charter Oak Agency effective July 1, the company announced.
Charter Oak has offices in Westport and Derby, Connecticut, and Smith Brothers will retain those offices, strengthening the company’s footprint in southern Connecticut. Marissa Barbera and her Charter Oak employees will join Smith Brothers.
“We are excited to welcome Marissa and her team to Smith Brothers Insurance,” President/CEO Joe B. Smith said in the announcement. “Charter Oak brings a history of serving the insurance needs of families and businesses, and their presence in southern Connecticut expands our reach while their clients gain access to a broader range of carriers, coverages, and risk-management services. Both agencies share a strong commitment to serving our clients and giving back to the communities where we live and work.”

Headquartered in Hartford, Smith Brothers has more than 250 employees and has offices in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York.
