SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The former Syracuse Fire Station 7 would become a new restaurant and apartments under a proposal the City of Syracuse announced Wednesday.
The two-story structure at 1039 East Fayette St. on the northern edge of University Hill has been out of service for more than a decade, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said in announcing the proposed redevelopment project.
JF Real Estate — a Syracuse–based real-estate brokerage and development company —plans a $2.5 million renovation of the building. The company plans four residential apartment units on the second floor. It will convert the first floor, which once housed fire vehicles, into restaurant space.

“We welcome JF Real Estate’s proposal to bring a new use to the former Station 7,” Walsh said in the announcement. “The plan fits with our goal to take under-utilized city properties and create quality housing units and expand the tax roll.”
JF Real Estate will pay the City of Syracuse $900,000 for the building and property. The sale is subject to approval by the Syracuse Common Council.
Station 7 closed as an active fire station in 2013. The site is in the new Community Grid corridor being created by the removal of the Interstate 81 viaduct, Walsh noted.
