UTICA, N.Y. — Munson has received a $2 million estate gift from the late William L. Boyle, Jr., one of the largest contributions to Munson since the founding family’s original donation, the fine-arts organization announced.
Half of the gift will be used to expand a scholarship fund established by Boyle years ago at Pratt Munson College of Art and Design. The remainder of the money will be used to establish an endowed fund to support special projects and annual operations.
“Bill’s extraordinary generosity reflects his profound belief in Munson’s mission,” Munson President/CEO Anna D’Ambrosio, said. “This visionary gift will ignite creative possibilities for our entire community for decades to come.”

To honor Boyle’s legacy, Munson dedicated the museum’s former “2 East Gallery” as the “Dr. William L. Boyle, Jr. Gallery.” A Utica native, Boyle served as a Munson trustee from 2008-2016, served on advisory committees for the Museum of Art and School of Art, and was a Munson member for more than 30 years.
Boyle was a longtime private college educator, including serving as president of Keuka College in the Finger Lakes region and president of Curry College in Massachusetts. He died on Nov. 10, 2023, at the age of 90.
The Munson organization includes the Museum of Art and Pratt Munson College of Art and Design.
