UTICA, N.Y. — The Utica Zoo is launching its new Dino Discovery presented by The Flemma Group at Baird animatronic dinosaur exhibit this weekend.
The exhibit will run Saturday, May 24 through Oct. 19. The Utica Zoo held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting event for it on Wednesday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m.
“With this new and exciting exhibit, we anticipate an additional 25,000 visitors to come to the Utica Zoo,” Kyla Jacobs, the zoo’s director of administrative operations, said in an announcement. “That will bring in people from all over New York who haven’t visited the zoo in a while, those who have never visited us before, and allow us to still excite our members who come regularly. An exhibit of this caliber has never been to the Utica Zoo or the Mohawk Valley, which is exciting for our small community. Having an exhibit that has been showcased around the world right here in their backyard is very special, and we’re happy we can host it.”

Dino Discovery, which is included in the cost of zoo admission, features more than a dozen life-sized animatronic dinosaurs throughout the zoo grounds. Each one boasts realistic movements, roars, and some even include water-spraying effects, offering guests an immersive experience.
For the opening weekend, May 24-26, the zoo has planned an array of activities. The zoo will offer its members early access from 9-10 a.m. on May 24. Other activities include dino keeper talks throughout the day, dinosaur-themed crafts, scavenger hunts, and more.
Throughout the summer, daily dinosaur presentations, special educational programming, and exclusive themed events will be offered.
The Utica Zoo, accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, is home to about 200 exotic and domestic animals and welcomes nearly 100,000 visitors annually.
