UTICA, N.Y. — The City of Utica and the Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the grand opening of Harbor Point on June 5 with a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m., followed by a community celebration from 5-8 p.m., the city announced.
The event marks a significant step in Utica’s efforts to revitalize its waterfront district to create a recreational and economic hub.
For more than a decade, the city has worked toward its vision to develop more than 100 acres around the city’s inner harbor on the Mohawk River and Erie Canal into a year-round, mixed-use destination complete with food, entertainment, and recreation opportunities.

The June 5 event will feature food and beverage vendors, live music, family activities, and outdoor recreation. The event and project is funded in part with support from the New York State Canal Corporation and the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor.
“The grand opening of Harbor Point marks the culmination of decades of vision, investment, and hard work, and on June 5th, it begins a new chapter for an entire district, transforming Utica’s historic waterfront on the Mohawk River and Erie Canalway Trail into a distinctive destination for recreation, business development, and tourism,” Utica Mayor Michael P. Galime said in the announcement. “This is the launch of a renewed vision to our community, and I could not be more proud to showcase the progress to date knowing greater milestones lie ahead.”
Due to limited parking at the harbor, Centro will provide a continuous bus shuttle from the Utica University Nexus Center parking lot for the event.
