Tompkins Build – Pathways to Apprenticeship is an 11-week, paid training program designed to prepare people for successful careers in the construction industry. The program involves hands-on training and classroom learning. It also includes direct involvement with local unions to give participants the skills, certifications, and confidence needed to pursue union apprenticeship career opportunities, IAED said.
Offered in partnership with the Tompkins Cortland Building Trades Council, active union members are the program’s instructors, and it takes place at a local union training center, providing participants with direct insight and mentorship from professionals working in the field.
Throughout the program, participants will receive extensive hands-on training and visit up to 10 different union training centers to learn more about potential career paths in the trades.
The technical instruction is built around the Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) and includes industry certifications such as OSHA-10 and First Aid/CPR.
In addition to technical skills, participants will receive support in areas such as math for the trades; union-entrance exam preparation; and interview readiness, ensuring they’re “fully equipped” to navigate the competitive application process, IAED said.
