DeWITT, N.Y. — Semiconductor Components Industries, LLC (NASDAQ: ON), which does business as onsemi, has purchased the former NexGen fab facility in DeWitt and plans to create 80 new jobs.
The firm, which is based in Scottsdale, Arizona, plans to make a nearly $120 million investment in the facility, Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said in announcing the deal Thursday.
The company will also be asking the Onondaga County Industrial Development Agency to approve relevant benefits for the project as well, the county noted.

The project will be done in two phases: a research and development (R&D) phase and a manufacturing phase. The initial R&D phase is where onsemi will acquire the inactive site in DeWitt as well as the equipment. For the second phase, onsemi will renovate the facility to be able to accommodate the manufacturing of its semiconductor technology.
The firm onsemi is a Fortune 500 semiconductor company with about 30,000 jobs worldwide including 4,000 in the U.S. The firm’s products “offer superior efficiency, helping their customers solve big challenges and create cutting-edge products for a better tomorrow,” per the Onondaga County announcement.
