UTICA, N.Y. — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the Workforce Development Board of Herkimer, Madison, and Oneida Counties (WDB HMO) a $500,000 brownfields job training grant, the board announced.
The WDB HMO will use the grant to train local job seekers and place them in environmental jobs. Its training program includes instruction in environmental health and land reuse, which will lead to sought-after skills and certifications.
Those who complete the training will gain critical skills in the brownfields industry and can earn up to four state and two federal certifications including OSHA 30, OSHA Lead, HAZWOPER, state mold abatement, state asbestos abatement, OSHA confined spaces, global hazard communications, blood-borne pathogens and infections, and site-safety training worker.
