ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D–Bronx) says he’s “honored and humbled” that members of the Assembly majority have nominated him for the speaker’s role for the sixth time.
“I have been proud to lead this chamber since 2015 and today’s caucus vote is just as meaningful to me this as it was nearly ten years ago when I first became speaker,” Heastie said in a statement on Dec. 9. “I look forward to getting to work with my colleagues in 2025 as we strive to lift up all New Yorkers and help them climb the ladder of economic success and prosperity.”
His office tells CNYBJ that the 2025 session begins Jan. 8, and a formal, full vote on the nomination will happen at that time.

Heastie visited Syracuse on July 23 to announce an additional $3 million for the renovation project at the JMA Wireless Dome.
