UTICA, N.Y. — The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties announced it has awarded more than $1.85 million in grants during the second quarter in support of organizations and initiatives across the community.
In April, the foundation awarded $219,700 to 21 organizations in its equity grant round aimed at local nonprofits addressing inequality and inequity that impact marginalized populations in areas such as education, economic stability, housing, health care, and food insecurity.
The foundation’s library grant round in May allocated $35,000 to 21 libraries for program-related expenses, physical-structure updates, or technology upgrades.

The first responders grand round in June, powered by the Hero Fund America Fund of the Community Foundation, awarded more than $20,000 to 17 first-responder organizations across the U.S. to support education, training, lifesaving equipment, and mental-health needs of first responders.
The Community Foundation’s donor-advised funds — established by community donors and businesses that wish to be actively involved in the grantmaking process — awarded 97 grants totaling more than $510,000 to more than 70 nonprofits.
Grants are made possible through the generosity of donors and organizations that create funds at the foundation. A number of new funds were recently created including the Bernice Benson Memorial Scholarship Fund, Broadway Utica – UticaWorx Fund, Fred C. Snyder Education Scholarship Fund, Herkimer County HealthNet Fund, John H. Sheridan Memorial Fund, Salerno Catholic Education Fund, Teresa D. Huggins Memorial Fund, and View Board Restricted Fund.
In the first two quarters of 2024, the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties awarded more than $3.9 million in grants. Founded in 1952, the organization invests in social-impact initiatives, collaborative leadership, and grantmaking.
