CARTHAGE, N.Y. — Carthage Area Hospital is expanding lab services at its community health center at 117 North Mechanic St., beginning April 3.
The clinic-based service means patients will “no longer have to travel” to complete lab work, Carthage Area Hospital said in a news release.
A new full-time phlebotomist has joined the clinic staff to handle lab draws at the downtown location, the organization noted.

Inflation and Insurance Rates: How to Offset the Impact
Many industries have been hit by inflation where it hurts the most, our pockets. Inflation is raising the price of goods and services including food, housing, transportation, and medical care.
Lab services at the hospital “remain an option” for all patients, it added.
“On-site lab service is another step we’ve taken to improve the overall patient experience,” Mark DeCilles, director of outpatient clinics, said in the release. “Patients will be able to easily complete lab draws after appointments under the same roof.”
Patients from any Carthage Area Hospital clinic or outside provider can walk in and access lab services at the North Mechanic Street facility “without an appointment.”
Lab patients don’t have to be an existing Carthage Area Hospital or clinic patient, the nonprofit said.
Hours for lab services are 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
It will accept all forms of insurance, per the release.
Established in 1965, Carthage Area Hospital is a 25-bed hospital, serving about 83,000 residents in Jefferson, northern Lewis, and southern St. Lawrence counties.
