CORTLAND, N.Y. — SUNY Cortland recently announced that former U.S. Defense Secretary and Senator William S. Cohen will headline a symposium of diplomats, business people, academic experts, and baseball executives to discuss how diplomacy can be used to bridge the differences between Cuba and the United States.
The symposium will be held on the SUNY Cortland campus on April 28, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The college says all interested students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the community are invited to attend the event — either for the full day or for one or more of the panel discussions.

SUNY Cortland is encouraging local businesses to attend.
“We want members of the business community who had business connections with Cuba or think there are opportunities in Cuba,” says Frederic Pierce, SUNY Cortland’s public relations director.
The event will be held in the college’s David Vittor Lecture Hall in Sperry Center, which holds 200 people. If the room is filled, the remaining attendees will be moved to another room to watch a live stream of the event.
In addition to the Cuba symposium, SUNY Cortland is attempting to establish an academic program with a university in Cuba for its students, Pierce says.
