BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Press & Sun-Bulletin will no longer be printed in Binghamton. Instead, the company said printing operations will shift 2 ½ hours away to Rochester.
The Binghamton paper is part of Gannett, the national newspaper chain headquartered in Virginia.
“The decision was made to create operational efficiencies and savings within Gannett,” George Troyano, president of Central New York Media, part of the USA Today Network, was quoted as saying in the Press & Sun-Bulletin’s own report on the change.

The Binghamton paper will be printed on the presses of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, another Gannett paper.
Some 98 employees in Binghamton are expected to be affected by the move, the paper reported. It said the workers, involved in printing and packaging, would be eligible to apply for jobs in Rochester. The change is expected to take place in mid-June.
“We want to thank our loyal, hard-working employees for their many contributions in helping to produce the quality content we deliver every day,” Troyano was quoted saying.
Gannett owns USA Today and 109 local newspapers, including papers in Ithaca and Elmira, which was the first paper in the Gannett chain when Frank Gannett and associates bought a half interest in the publication in 1906.
The Rochester plant will publish products for Binghamton, Ithaca, Elmira and Rochester markets.
