ROME, N.Y. — The New York State Police in Sylvan Beach have arrested a Boonville woman for allegedly seeking to walk out of the Rome Walmart with 77 items worth more than $500 without paying for them.
The State Police on Thursday responded to the Walmart Supercenter at 5815 Rome-Taberg Road in the city of Rome for a report of a larceny in progress. The Walmart’s security staff had detained Victoria I. Maher, age 44, of Boonville, after failing to pay for all the items in her cart, the State Police said in a Friday news release.
The investigation revealed that Maher had concealed the 77 items in reusable shopping bags in her cart and failed to pay for them after using the self-check-out line. The value of the items totaled $521.53, the State Police said.
