The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced it is hiring more than 1,000 new and returning lifeguards for this summer season at its swimming beaches and pools.
“Lifeguards are crucial to the success of our State Parks throughout the most popular months of the year,” State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey said in a news release. “Lifeguarding is a rewarding way high school and college students can make money and gain valuable job experience in a friendly, active and fun environment.”
New York State Parks lifeguards must be at least 16 years of age and meet certain eligibility criteria, including passing a qualifying exam before being hired. Pre-registration for exams is strongly encouraged, the release stated. A schedule of exams, more information about hiring requirements, and an application is available here.
