ALBANY, N.Y. — New York farms produced 1.06 billion pounds of milk in February, up 2.3 percent from the year-ago month, according to the USDA’s New York field office.
Production per cow averaged 1,725 pounds in February, up 35 pounds from February 2014. The number of milk cows on farms in the state totaled 616,000 head, or 1,000 head more than a year ago, but unchanged from last month.
The field office also reported milk prices for January. The average price received by New York milk producers fell to $18.70 per hundredweight in January, from $22.30 in December and $24.30 last January.
