SYRACUSE — Lowell Seifter plans to leave Green & Seifter, Attorneys, PLLC to become general counsel at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center.
Seifter will surrender his ownership stake in the law firm that bears his name at the end of January. He expects to start work in what is a new position at St. Joseph’s in mid-February.
“I’m excited about a new challenge,” says Seifter. “The firm has gotten to a place where it’s strong and vibrant, and my departure will not hurt the firm.”

Seifter is one of 20 attorneys who are principals of Green & Seifter. He has been with the firm for 35 years.
In his new position at St. Joseph’s, Seifter will be responsible for advising the hospital on legal and business issues. It is the first time the hospital has employed a general counsel.
The hospital uses different law firms to navigate various issues. It will continue to do so after Seifter joins its staff.
“My role really will be to coordinate those services, make sure the right people are doing the work, and help the hospital interpret the advice that they’re getting from outside counsel,” Seifter says.
Seifter’s areas of primary practice at Green & Seifter include business transactions, commercial real estate, and health care. He will remain of counsel to the law firm, meaning he will maintain a relationship with it to help with a limited number of clients.
St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center is a 431-bed hospital and health-care system that provides services to patients from Onondaga County and 15 surrounding counties. Green & Seifter, Attorneys, PLLC, has 31 attorneys who worked with over 2,000 clients last year.
