A set of grants worth $3.45 million will help 15 communities throughout New York redevelop brownfield sites.
The grants will come through the Brownfield Opportunity Areas program, which supports programs aimed at redeveloping brownfields. The sites are dormant properties where contamination has impeded development, turning them into economic and environmental drains, according to the state.
The grants support steps like investigations of brownfield sites to determine contamination, environmental impact assessments, economic and market studies, redevelopment plans, and more.
