SYRACUSE — Upstate University Hospital is beginning a second phase of construction on its $50 million Upstate Cancer Center at its Syracuse campus.
Crews will place over 550 tons of steel this summer to erect the center’s frame. The facility will be five stories and over 90,000 square feet.
The hospital estimates the project will generate 300 construction jobs. It plans to submit the center for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council after it is complete.

The center will be dedicated to cancer care for children and adults. It will have private infusion rooms, a four-season rooftop garden, and a family resource center.
Upstate University Hospital is funding the construction with bonds and a capital campaign. That campaign has raised $12.6 million toward a goal of $15 million, the hospital said in a news release.
