The number of people filing initial applications for unemployment benefits in New York state increased more than 5 percent to 18,547 in the week ending June 28, from 17,631 the week before.
It’s the second straight week that initial jobless claims have risen since setting a year-to-date low of 16,201 in the week concluding June 14, according to U.S. Department of Labor data issued Thursday.
However, the number of people continuing to receive unemployment-insurance benefits in New York dipped in the most-recent week to 169,263, a new low for 2014, according to the Labor Department data.
