POTSDAM — The president of the State University of New York (SUNY) Potsdam said Tuesday he will step down in July.
John Schwaller will leave his post as the school’s president July 31.
“The contributions of SUNY Potsdam to the North Country over the last six years have been profound,” Schwaller said in a letter to the campus. “We can all be very, very proud of what we have achieved together. SUNY Potsdam, the campus that I love so dearly, must continue to capitalize on this success.

The SUNY Board of Trustees will discuss the leadership position at the school at its December meeting. Schwaller has not said what he will do next.
SUNY Potsdam has more than 4,300 graduate and undergraduate students.
